Absorbent mats for orthopaedic procedures

Whether you are replacing a hip, knee or shoulder or carrying out any other orthopaedic procedures requiring fluid capture, using a highly absorbent mat to soak up any blood or irrigation fluids can prevent a lot of mess and slip risks.

In this article, we look at three kinds of absorbent mat that can help provide a drier and safer environment for you and your patients.

1.       The T-Mat for orthopaedic theatres and wards

Designed for orthopaedic theatre floors to collect fluids during procedures, the T-Mat collects and binds liquids hygienically, drawing liquid away from the surface and turning it into a gel in just a couple of minutes.

Able to absorb up to 8.5 litres of water or 3.5 litres of saline, the T-Mat is the most absorbent mat on the UK market. Measuring 75 x 36cm, it is a handy size to position on the floor where you expect any fluids to pool.

By locking in fluids, the T-Mat not only minimises the risk of as slips and trips, but also reduces the time needed to clean up post-procedure.

In fact, its non-drip design means that you can easily dispose of it in a clinical waste bin with minimal risk of cross-contamination.

2.       The DryMax XL for orthopaedic theatre scrub rooms

If you are looking for an absorbent mat that you can stand on whilst scrubbing up, then the DryMax XL is the perfect solution due to its anti-skid design.

Capable of absorbing up to 2 litres of fluid, the DryMax XL locks in liquids, preventing slips and allowing for easy, non-drip disposal, with minimum risk of cross-infection.

You can also cut the DryMax XL to fit an area, with the product available as individual mats sized 100 x 75cm or supplied on a 100cm x 50m roll.

3.       The DryMax Sterile for orthopaedic procedures

The DryMax Sterile is the perfect choice, if you are looking for an absorbent mat that you can position beneath or next to the patient during procedures.

Measuring 72 x 37cm, this disposable mat can absorb up to 6 litres of fluids and 2.4 litres of saline.

This non-drip mat can then be easily disposed of as clinical waste, ensuring a faster turnaround and reduced clean-up time.
