Chemical Spill Management

If there was a chemical spill in your hospital department, would you and your colleagues know how to deal with it quickly and safely?

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) state that hospitals must have effective chemical spill management measures in place to protect those at risk of exposure. Part of this is the ability to respond to a spill and deal with it quickly and efficiently, minimizing the risk.

Importance of Chemical Spill Management

In a busy and high risk environment such as a hospital, chemical spills can occur at any time, and for a variety of reasons - from human error to mechanical breakdown. If a spill does happen, it puts visitors, staff and patients at risk of exposure, and may even result in closure of your department, meaning you cannot deliver your service to those who need it.

Managing Hospital Spills

Hospital chemical spills can be hazardous. So it is essential that departments are well equipped with chemical spill stations or chemical spill kits. These kits contain all you need to deal safely and quickly with spillages.

Cairn Technology have supplied chemical spill stations/chemical spill kits to over 300 UK hospitals, enabling them to save time, save money and prevent serious injury.

Hospital Chemicals Training Course

In addition to our range of chemical spill stations, we have developed a spill management training course specifically designed for hospital staff.

The course covers many areas of spill management including PPE, procedure in the event of a chemical spill, COSHH Regulations and more, and was developed in conjunction with Central Sheffield University Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

More information is available on our hospital chemicals training course page.
