ASGBI Congress and Gala Dinner

The ASGBI International Surgical Congress 2018

Taking place from 9th to 11th May 2018 at the ACC Liverpool, the ASGBI International Surgical Congress is a three-day conference that promises a first-rate educational and social opportunity for surgeons and those involved in surgical care.

This year’s theme will be “Surgical Teams”, in recognition of the fact that services are now delivered by teams drawn from multiple professions and disciplines; a collaborative approach that can have numerous benefits including helping to enhance efficiency, boost clinical outcomes and encourage innovation.

In addition to high quality plenary sessions and symposia on elective and emergency general surgical care, there will also be a plethora of educational opportunities including lectures from the four Royal Colleges, educational updates/videos within short paper sessions and a Meet the Expert session.

In addition, submitted abstracts that score the highest will be presented as oral presentations with the next highest scoring tier being featured in an e-poster presentation display within the exhibition.

The top scoring abstract will also be announced as the winner of the Moynihan Prize at a prize giving session on Thursday 10th May.

Other prizes awarded during the session will include the John Farndon prize for the best manuscript published in the BJS in the previous calendar year, the Wiley & Sons / BJS Audio Visual Prize for best video, and the NELA Sponsored Trainee Prize for the best submission using hospital NELA data.

The top scoring short papers, as decided by the adjudicators and the Association’s Scientific Committee, will also be accepted as Short Papers of Distinction.

In addition to an array of educational and awards opportunities, there will also be a busy social programme for delegates to enjoy. This will include the Annual Golf Competition, the ASGBI Gala Dinner, the Prize Giving Drinks Reception and Dine Around Town.

With the Association’s founding objectives being “the advancement of the science and art of surgery, and the promotion of friendship amongst surgeons”, the ASGBI International Surgical Congress 2018, promises to be an event that will do just that.
